Ever since its founding in 1984, Beta Systems Software AG has been focusing on IT solutions for compliance and efficiency. It all started with the launch of Beta 92, a precursor of what is now called GRC – one of the biggest present-day IT topics. Beta 92 was the first major product of Beta Systems in the area of data center automation. The software facilitates DP production tracking in the data center, enabling log data searches throughout all company sites and departments. This means that companies are able to provide proof of meeting legal provisions at all times, thus resulting in compliant workflows.
After several years of growth in Germany and abroad, which was further strengthened by a successful initial public offering in 1997, the portfolio was strategically expanded at the turn of the millennium to cover identity management solutions. In 2002, Beta Systems introduced audit management functions for RACF security systems for the first time. A year later, a strategic technology transfer (realized through acquiring Systor Security) allowed Beta Systems to offer their customers the cutting-edge SAM Enterprise identity access management (IAM) solution to serve the need for access rights control capabilities which now has become one of the key demands of GRC. Further key components that followed include Password Self-Reset (2001), Identity Log Audit Facility (2004), Single Sign-On (2005), role mining analysis tools (2007) and new security products for password management, complementing Beta Systems’ identity & access governance expertise and providing all the building blocks required to offer a comprehensive GRC solution.
In 2008 the company SI Software Innovation GmbH was acquired as part of a strategic realignment. This measure also introduced new document composition solutions to the Beta Systems product offering.
Today, Beta Systems provides end-to-end document processing solutions that enable customers to manage electronic documents across the entire company. This allows them to meet all GRC provisions and manage their IT processes both securely and efficiently. The data center automation products are also being continuously improved to help customers better meet GRC requirements, for instance, by complementing the workload automation solution with APX/PCC from APM Software GmbH.
As a result, 30 years of know-how and close customer ties have given rise to an IT GRC concept for the mainframe world that comprises the full breadth of integrated, agile information and risk management solutions. As a next step, Beta Systems will launch the ‘_smart _beta’ program in early 2012 to underscore its claim as a leading European IT specialist focusing on governance, risk & compliance.
